DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)

What is DSL?

DSL services for PriorityONE are provided by and managed by EONI.

DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. This is a technology for transmitting high speed data over copper telephone lines, and is most commonly used for high speed Internet connections. DSL can provide Internet access at speeds as high as 1.5Mbps and above, but the speed your location can receive depends on two main factors:

  1. the line quality from the telephone company to your location, and
  2. the distance from the telephone company to your location. DSL is a very distance sensitive service and only works within a few miles of the telephone company's central office.

DSL also depends on several other factors, and is not available in all locations. Special equipment is usually needed at the service provider's location or at the telephone company's central office. Also, you will need a special modem and a network connection on your computer in order to receive a DSL connection.
